Pop Up Garden- At The Seaside
I loved creating this garden for my son’s school. A temporary installation to coincide with the class’s summer topic, ‘At the Seaside. The garden was centred around a giant sandpit “beach” complete with shells and driftwood, a paddling pool and beach toys.
Around the edge was a wooden promenade and colourful kiosk where the children could sell ice creams and shells and perform puppet shows.
To the side was a wooden play ship and seating area with a rug, deckchairs and cushions. Hanging baskets and tubs filled with bright flowers finished the area.
Native wildflowers and grasses were planted around the edges and the whole area was finished with a wonderful beach hut mural, kindly painted and donated by John Glynn of Alien Threadwork.
Tree planting, wildflowers and Dormice
In April 2023 I purchased a small meadow and woodland in The Forest of Dean. This is a personal longterm project to increase wildlife and biodiversity on the land.
I
In the winter of that year I, with the help of family and friends planted 1000 native trees including oak, lime, sweet chestnut and wild cherry.
In the summer of 2024 we dug a pond with the intention of encouraging a diverse and abundant ecosystem to flourish. This area has also been sown with native wildflowers.
The woodland is undergoing some management too with the old coppice stools being rejuvenated in the hope we can encourage dormice to set up home there.
This project has become my absolute passion and most weekends I can be found working in the woods moving my plans forward.
